Job Description

Position Summary

We are supporting a wonderful client in Downtown Sacramento with a Temporary HR Specialist - Leave Administration. This role is responsible for managing and administering employee leave programs in compliance with federal, state, and company policies. This role ensures accurate tracking, clear communication, and a positive employee experience related to all types of leave, including medical, family, and disability leaves.

100% On-site | Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm

Temporary: 90 days+

Pay Rate: $30-40/hr


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage employee leave programs, including but not limited to:
    • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
    • State-specific leave laws (e.g., CFRA, Paid Family Leave)
    • Short-term and long-term disability
    • Military leave and personal leaves of absence
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding leave inquiries and processes
  • Evaluate leave requests for eligibility and ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies
  • Coordinate with payroll, and benefits vendors to ensure seamless leave processing
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee leave records in HRIS systems
  • Track leave usage, balances, and return-to-work dates
  • Communicate leave approvals, denials, and required documentation to employees in a timely and empathetic manner
  • Ensure proper documentation is collected, reviewed, and securely maintained
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and managers to support employee transitions, accommodations, and return-to-work plans
  • Monitor changes in leave laws and regulations; recommend and implement policy updates as needed
  • Provide training and guidance to managers and employees on leave policies and procedures
  • Generate reports and analyze leave trends to support workforce planning and compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2-5 years of HR experience, with a strong focus on leave administration
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state leave laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, state leave programs)
  • Experience working with HRIS systems and case management tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive, confidential information
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with leave administration
  • HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP)
  • Experience working with third-party leave administrators
